Conflicts of interest — how to recognise them and how to respond

Conflicts of interest arise when individuals or groups serve multiple interests that are not mutually compatible.

There could be a conflict of interest if you were asked to assess work or a job that you yourself carried out or helped with, for example.

A conflict of interest could also arise when a decision that you’re making as part of your job is affected by your interests outside work.
